Orange is gone

Filed under: Uncategorized, Royal Mumble, Cricket - roshabraham @ 10:29 am

Sanity has been restored! Pakistan have beaten Netherlands comprehensibly to grab a spot in the Super Eights.

The bright orange gear clad bunch of amateur cricketers are going back to what they do best - their 9-5 jobs.
They may be gone but my heart thanks them for having given me a wonderful day of cricket.

The way they felled the indifferent English cricket team is sure to become a folklore.

Hope they bring more joyous moments like this in futuire tournaments.

Cheers,
Rosh

Hurray for Holland!

Filed under: Royal Mumble, Cricket - roshabraham @ 9:27 am

The Mighty has been felled!

And with that the Dutch team, having won their first match in the 2009 T20 World Cup, has signaled that they need to be taken more seriously in this ridiculously short format of the gentleman’s game.

What a contrast the two competing sides made. One displayed an array of shambolic performances on field while the other egged on by surprise, cheer and self-belief held their nerves to scamper through for the victory.

One a team of highly paid, overrated professionals while the other a team of part-timers, taking time-off from the respective 9-5 jobs to participate in this event.

In the unlikely scenario of Holland proceeding to the next level, it will further drain the pockets of this team of enthusiasts. I sincerely hope that this triumph of theirs attract more sponsors to Dutch Cricket.

Hurray once again!

His Word

Filed under: Read it! Liked it!, Religion - roshabraham @ 9:11 am

His word inspires me. It fills my heart, mind and soul with his abounding grace. He is my potter and I am his clay. He is the shepherd and I am the sheep of his pasture.

For all things I reach out to him. He is the answer to all my questions. He is my Alpha. He is my Omega. He guides me and makes me walk in path of righteousness – a path led by his glorious might.

Here are a few verses from the Bible that may inspire us and help lead the life that he expects us to do.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Romans 8:28

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 17:20

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18

… but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:3

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Yes Lord! Your grace is sufficient for me and your grace is all that I need.

Charge - Shaken not Stirred!

Filed under: Royal Mumble, Technology - roshabraham @ 9:46 am

Couple of days back, I happened to read an interesting article on TechTree.com.
It talked about the ability of devices to generate electricity by subjecting it to physical or mechanical stress.

Dynamo powered radios, torches and even mini-computers that are charged by turning a mechanical handle for few minutes are quite common these days.
But, the shake and charge is an interesting concept none-the-less.

Here is the article from TechTree.com :
"If a bunch of ingenious researchers are to be believed, the day isn’t far when most of your gadgets would be powered by nanogenerators- tiny zinc oxide wires that possess piezoelectric properties.
If that went over your head, let us explain. Piezoelectric properties point toward the capability of an object to generate electricity (albeit tiny amounts of them, at least for now) when the object is bent, stretched or when subject to any physical or mechanical stress.
In short, with this capability added, any object that can "move" can be made capable of drawing power from the movement itself. The nano wires used to power these future gadgets possess the aforementioned piezoelectric abilities and are not only very small in size but also very thin. Each nanowire is 25 times thinner than a human hair!
The lead researcher behind this project, Zhong Lin Wang, believes that the device can be in the future used to power cellphones and gadgets.  Imagine, being able to charge your phone by merely moving it or shaking it? Even though these might sound farfetched now, a few years down the line, this might just become routine.
Apart from their use in charging gadgets, nanogenerators could be used in defense technology and biomedical sciences. Wang also demonstrated a video in which a single nanowire attached to a hamster managed to create 70 millivolts (.07 volts) of electricity.
Although this might sound too insignificant now, the team has managed to generate up to 0.2 volts of electricity, and with further improvements expected, the figure is sure to go up. Just to put things into perspective, a USB powered device uses about 5 volts of electricity. So I guess we still have a long way to go."

Cool. Ain’t it?

Holy Week

Filed under: My Life, Royal Mumble, Religion - roshabraham @ 9:08 am

I have been supporting India Campus Crusade for Christ for some time now. They are doing a wonderful thing by spending time with the youth and educating them the Word of God.
In a world where there is so much chaos and disharmony, it is good to know that the youth are being led the right way.
Let’s pray that God will bless their Ministries abundantly.
To read more about India Campus Crusade for Christ, please click here.

I got this beautiful message from Joseph Wilson who is a part of the Campus Crusade Mission.

‘Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another - showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.’ 2 Tim 3:16

Father God!
I know that I have committed many wrongs in my life. I repent for all my sins.
Father I believe that whosoever comes to you will not go empty handed.

I believe that I will find ‘your amazing grace‘ that will fill my soul and cleanse my heart of all evil and sin.
I submit myself into your care and protection of Lord. I believe that you will lead me through my life, helping me overcome all obstacles that come my way.
Lord I am like clay in your hands. Mould me in a way that you want me to be. I believe that your skillful hands will repair my broken life and cleanse me of all iniquities.
Thank you Father, for listening to my prayers.

May this Holy Week transform our lives and give us everlasting peace.

God Bless.

Use Headphone as a Mic

Filed under: My Life, Useful Tips, Royal Mumble - roshabraham @ 1:36 pm

My wife taught me a cool trick y’day.

Did you know that - A good head/ear phone in a Mic port equals a low quality microphone?
I didn’t believe it till I tried!

I am told that as far as physics goes, headphones and microphones are basically similar. There is a major difference though! One turns electrical signals into sound waves and the other turns sound into signals.

Don’t expect a too much and you’ll not be disappointed.

Cheers,
Rosh

A Holi Evening in London

Filed under: My Life, Royal Mumble - roshabraham @ 7:47 pm

We celebrated Holi at work today. Thanks to two of my colleagues, Mr. A and Ms. P, who came up with the idea of playing with colours at office. Most of us were not expecting this, but I have to add that it was fun while it lasted. One more brilliant memory added to my Pensieve.

Flying high…

Arey mera gana to suno bhaiya… (Listen to my song, Bro!)

Miss P and Mr A.

Holi cheers..

Unimaginatively titled, Another snap

Wish you and your family a very happy Holi.

Cheers,

GHOUGHPHTHEIGHTTEEAU

Filed under: My Life, Royal Mumble - roshabraham @ 7:51 pm

I have temporarily moved into a friend’s apartment for couple of weeks till I find a place of my own. The apartment is in East Croydon and its almost an hour’s travel from my office.

Today evening we left office at around 6:30 pm and being the peak hours the trains were jam packed.

While staring at the insides of the train, obviously because I had nothing else to do, I noticed this brilliant advertisement for the Spelling Bee competition to be held in England.

Here it goes:

If GH can stand for P in Hiccough
If OUGH can stand for O in Dough
If PHTH can stand for T in Phthesis
If EIGH can stand for A in Neighbour
If TTE can stand for T in Gazette
If EAU can stand for O in Plateau

Then the way you spell POTATO is GHOUGHPHTHEIGHTTEEAU
Isn’t it?

Cheers,
Rosh
